Henley Youth Festival Makes Waves in 2020

Embark on an exciting Oceans adventure with the Henley Youth Festival as it packs the festival’s activities, events and school workshops into nine full days of fun.

The 27th festival will take place between 7-15th March with art, music, performance, educational and sporting activities for all young people aged between 4 to 18, either at school or living in Henley and its surrounding area.

‘Oceans’ is the new theme for #HYF2020 and was inspired by David Attenborough’s ‘Blue Planet’.

Suzanne Yeates, HYF Trustee, explains:

“OCEANS is broad enough to spark all imaginations. Inspiration can be taken from nature or ecological concerns as well as the arts, music science and literature. We were particularly motivated by the impact of single use plastics on marine life as local artist Emily Cooling cleverly illustrated with a giant jellyfish made from waste packaging as part of a community art project for our pop-up event on Henley Festival Family Sunday.”

Henley’s young people look forward to their favourite HYF events returning. The HYF Run, Gig Night and the Junior Proms at Rupert House School are back. Performances are on at the Kenton Theatre and there will be numerous workshops running in local schools, as well as the art, film, photography and writing competitions.

As the 2020 Henley Youth Festival’s programme nears completion there are some exciting changes to note. The festival will be at the Kenton Theatre on New Street on Friday 13th and Saturday 14th of March with a new format for its music, dance and variety performances. Full details will be available when the HYF launches to all schools in Henley this January.

HYF 2020 is hoping to see events supported across the generations once again with involvement from The Arts Society Henley and students from Henley College running storytelling workshops for younger children or compering the shows at the Kenton Theatre. There are many opportunities for young people to get involved in the running of the festival and several exciting new workshops from local providers.

The Henley Youth Festival urgently needs new volunteers to man the decks and fill key roles steering the festival. To find out more about HYF’s volunteering opportunities please email hyfinfo@gmail.com
