Young Performer

Every year, astounding performances are produced for the Young Performer. The wide variety of entertainment shown, demonstrates the talent of many young people Each performance is so unique that there is no winner at the end. The audience's eyes were riveted to the stage watching people such as Isabel Sanderson, who performed ' A Judgement on Goldilocks' , using clear hand gestures and had a great stage presence. Fiona Bringman and Antonia Fabian filled the Kenton Theatre with music singing 'Can you feel the love tonight'. Finally the evening finished with a performance by the Von Trapp Hearn's, Billy, Ibby and Tess, dancing fluently and confidently to 'Got to pick a pocket or two' from Oliver Twist. We can only conclude that Henley has a great mix of astonishingly talented youth ! A well deserved thank you to Tom Campbell and stage manager, Wendy Allum for all their hard work

Gala 2006 - report on the second half

What a feast of youthful talent! The variety and breadth of music making, acting, comedy and dancing was spell binding. The rendering of 'Puppet on a String' was slick and well co-ordinated by the Moberly sisters. The Gillotts dancers had some talented movers in their midst, clearly demonstrating the high level of talent. Joe Henwood a winner of the Solo Musician, showed brilliant musical communication with his audience beyond his years. Chloe Vincent, winner of the Senior Solo Musicians played flute with beautiful phrasing and tone colour. Jazz singing obviously suits Gabrielle Gleeson's voice. She sang 'Summertime' with subtle shading and good dynamic range. The dance 'Late for School' was so entertaining and filled the Kenton theatre with laughter all around. On a more serious note, Antony Gann, Senior Winner of the Poetry Competition read his poem, which portrayed the nature of friendship and was well constructed and moving. Finally Jazcaban finished off the evening playing us out. A big thank you to Alfie hay and stage manager, Wendy Allum, for all their hard work

Natalie Fatemi - Junior Winner
Young Dancer Competition

On Sunday 12th March at Rotherfield Hall in Henley, from 3-5.30pm, the Young Dancer competition was getting started. The Hall looked great, with lovely colourful balloons and a big banner at the front of the stage saying Henley Youth Festival. There was groovy music playing, the Hall was filling up, and lots of tickets were being sold. The dancers were arriving, and the atmosphere was really exciting!

At the beginning, Maria from the Henley Standard took a big picture of all the acts. There were fantastic costumes from silver dresses and feather boas, to blue sparkly tops and pink jeans. There were ballerinas, ghosts, butterflies, fairies, cats, mice and lots of 'street' dancers. Once the dances started I didn't want to move from y seat because everyone was so good and you never knew what sort of dance, or what type of music was coming next. I mustn't forget to mention the two showpiece dances by Bart Jennings and Saskia Steele and Arts Academy, which gave the judges some thinking time.

I don't know how the judges actually managed to choose the winners because all the dancers were fantastic. Of course I had my favourite dance, but it wouldn't be fair of me to say which it was. I'm going to keep it a 'ghostly' secret!
