Who can enter
Anyone who attends one of our participating schools or lives in Henley or a nearby village in South Oxfordshire. If you have changed schools but have previously taken part in the Youth Festival please contact Lucie (details below).
Which Event shall I enter
If you are in School Years 1-6 please enter JUNIOR SINGER. If you are in Y7 or above, please enter SENIOR SINGER when Senior Singers will join the Senior Dancers to give a special evening of celebration of their talents.If you enter as a group please enter the event appropriate for the oldest member.
Can I use a microphone
You will be required to sing without the use of a microphone. If you want to use a microphone you should enter Entertainer
Can I have an accompanist or backing music
You should ideally be accompanied by a pianist or similar acoustic accompanist whose details should be included on the application form. You are welcome to sing unaccompanied and you may use a backing track if necessary. If you would like help to find an accompanist please contact Lucie Henwood (see below) as soon as possible and by the 24th February at the latest and she will try to help. Please note accompanists normally make a small charge to rehearse your piece with you and attend on the day.
How long should my performance be
Your piece should be 3 minutes or under for Juniors and 4 minutes or under for Seniors. No medleys please.
Can I enter as a soloist AND as part of a group
You may, but you can only take part in 2 items in total. Please fill in a separate entry form for each. If either of the events is oversubscribed we may have to limit the total number of performances.
Will there be Rehearsals
Juniors -No formal rehearsals, but the Henley Room will be available throughout the event for warming up.Senior singers will be contacted nearer the event to arrange a rehearsal time.
Will there be any Feedback on my performance
Specialist advisors will give feedback on each performance based primarily on vocal quality and technique. They will also decide which performers deserve special recognition and they will be awarded trophies donated by the Rotary Club of Henley on Thames. These will be presented at the Festival Gala
What time do I need to arrive
After you have sent in your entry form you will be contacted with all the details.
How do I Buy Tickets
Junior Singers: No tickets required. Senior Singers: Tickets will be available from the Kenton Box Office from Monday 22nd February 2010. See Tickets for more information.
Parent helpers
Can you help for about 1 hour at the River & Rowing Museum or at one the evening events at the Kenton Theatre?At the Kenton events, would you be able to help either Backstage or as a Front of House Steward? If you help backstage we can arrange for this to be for one half of the performance so you can sit in the auditorium when your child is performing. Front of House ushers can be in the auditorium throughout and duties may include helping with the coffee bar during the interval. Please let us know on the entry form and we will contact you.
Medical Information
If any performer has a medical issue that you think we should be aware of, please complete the Medical Form (LINK )which can be downloaded from the website.
Photographs
Photographs can only be taken by the official HYF photographer who will be present at most events during the Festival Week. Photographs will be available to purchase on a restricted website shortly after the event. To purchase photos, please email hyfphotolink@btconnect.com. Photos and video may be used in promotional material and on this website. Should you have any objection to your child’s photo or video of your child being used, please notify us by email a.staley@btconnect.com
How do I enter
Download and print the Guidelines & Entry Form and send completed to the address on the form by Friday 5th March 2010.
