Hexagon

Jewel of the River 2010

Monday 15th March 7:00 Hexagon Theatre

10 years ago, to recognise the Millennium, the Town Council, local charities, businesses and the Henley Regatta combined to assist the town's children to celebrate their town in a specially written pageant by Alfie Hay. It was performed on the banks of the River Thames by eight hundred children to an audience of over two thousand.

Those children are now the town's teenagers and, on March 15th in the Reading Hexagon, the pageant will be repeated with the addition of the views of those young people carefully crafted into a third act of the drama.

Henley Youth Festival and Henley Festival Trust SHOUT Project have combined their talents to underpin this new version of the Cantata. Professional dancers, performance poets and artists will work with the young people in their schools. New arrangements of the songs are being written by Alfie Hay and John Hails for an orchestra of local musicians to accompany the pageant.

We are really grateful to the Henley Rotary Club for sponsoring seven of the Cantata songs and also to the Henley Lions for sponsoring the production of the Cantata program.

Tickets for the performance are available either through your school office or the Hexagon Box Office on 0118 960 6060. Box Office open Mon - Fri 10:00Am - 5:00Pm.
Ticket prices: Adult - £8.00  Child - £4.00
