Design Competition

This years design competition is about learning, trying and applying new techniques in our workshops or from your own sources, on garment - the final item may remain a garment or become a toast rack. We are looking for innovation in how the final item is presented and we'd like you to produce a storyboard documenting your journey of creating a personal footprint and present your item with flair !

The competition is open to individual or team efforts as long as you leave your (foot)-prints the garment can become ...what ever you want ! Tie it, print it, photograph it, stretch, stitch, glue, felt it ! Make your mark. Workshops and guidance available -just document it !

Canvas
As your canvas you’ll need a wearable garment or wearable accessories, e.g. coat, dress, shirt, canvas shoes, hat, cap, raincoat etc. You’re welcome to bring many types of garment and textiles to test run before you decide on what you’d like to create as your final piece.
Techniques
If you come to the workshops we’ll teach you lots of techniques, such as – printing, decorating, embellishing, stitching and manipulation. If you haven’t been to the workshops, use what you already know and don’t be afraid of experimenting with new techniques.
Result
You create the surface and transform your garment into whatever you want. It does no longer need to be wearable, as long as everybody can see your ‘footprint’ on it.
Presentation You need to present your piece of work and a documentation of your creative journey. Your entry will be judged on; originality, use of material & techniques and the overall presentation. The winner will be announced at the GALA Show
