Writing Competition
The 2012 Writing Competition is now
open for entries.
This year there are 2 Categories:
Category 1: Creative writing
You can choose any written style: a script, a poem, song lyrics, a rap, a short story or a piece of reporting that reflects the 2012 theme: motion. You decide what motion means to you and how you want to work with it in your competition entry. Let your imagination run wild!
All entries should be a maximum of 500 words except a short story which can be 750.
Category 2: Sports writing
This could be a report on any match, race or competition – at school or outside - you have attended or watched on TV. It could be a live commentary for an event you watch or take part in (‘Joe appears from over the hill, into the last mile of the St Bloggs School cross country race’); for a sporting event you would like to see – perhaps the FA cup, a rugby match, the Ashes cricket or an Olympic sporting event. You could write a feature piece on a sports person or team you admire or some aspect of a game or sport you think is controversial.
Your piece should be 500 words max.
The competition will be adjudicated by professional writers, in 3 age groups:
Group 1: School years 1 -3
Group 2: School years 4 - 6
Group 3: School years 7 - 13
Prizes kindly donated by Bell Bookshop, Henley, for the most creative and original pieces in each age category. Prize giving will take place on Sunday 18th March at the Henley Youth Centre.
