Volunteers
Henley Youth Festival needs youThe Festival goes from strength to strength each year but several of the current volunteers have been working for the Festival since it began 19 years ago and their children have long since left school. The Festival needs fresh faces and new ideas to take it forward.
As volunteers you get a lot out of working for the Festival:
• A chance to do something you might have always wanted to do; for example, organising arts events, creating a great programme of events for under 5’s or for teenagers, co-ordinating sports events, creating displays or fundraising.
• Maintaining skills and keeping something constructive on the CV if you are taking a career break; great for accountants, teachers, lawyers, musicians, artists and other professionals.
• Huge appreciation for your skills; whether that is being great at handling administration, shaping inspiring competitions, lending expertise to music events or building relationships with schools, Trusts and Sponsors.
• Great fun! And great satisfaction at being a part of probably the biggest Youth Festival in the country run entirely by volunteers and one that offers every child in Henley space to discover their talents.
What’s on offer
Any of these could be done by one person, as a job share or by a group of friends together – (men and women equally welcome). Some jobs involve small amounts of time throughout the year – organise to fit with your commitments time. Other jobs are needed in HYF fortnight and again can be fitted around work – many of us do!
Sports Co-ordinator and Team members – organising inter-school sports events during March, and involving older students in leading them. Help out or organise just one event or co-ordinate the Henley Olympics (just a thought!) Lots of new faces needed here – current co-ordinator (over 10 years service!) will be around to help and support but wants to be more ‘behind the scenes’.
Staying Safe – make sure event co-ordinators do risk assessments, keeping the paperwork, liaising with Trustees. No previous experience needed – current co-ordinator available for support. Call Sarah to ask about this one: 07900894311
13+ workshops/events – liaising with Gillots and Henley College – teachers and students - to decide what events would best complement their curriculums then working out how to provide them. Again, we have the contacts but need new ideas. Great job for a Gillotts/Henley College parent. Call Jane to discuss this: 579779 (m) 07913184548
Under 5’s Co-ordinator – build a programme of fun events for Under 5’s during Festival week. We have some contacts – you bring the energy and knowledge about what under 5’s might like:
To talk about this one call Antonia on: 575460 (m) 07947 274462
Website content management –we are really lucky to have fantastic support from Henley company Signals who provide us with this great website, and all the technical design and maintenance is taken care of by the team. We try and do our bit by pasting or typing in the information on the pages. So if someone is interested in taking over the content management please give Sarah a call on 07900 894311. It would be helpful to have some experience but not essential.
PLUS General Volunteers – we really need a pool of people we can call on for just a few hours during the festival weeks to help look after the children who take part in a whole range of events, put up displays, help with competition entries etc. Whether sport, theatre, or behind the scenes is your thing we need you and would really appreciate your help.
If you have some time, we can find you a job.
Let us know you have some time by calling Tina on: 01491 636057
PLEASE DON’T THINK SOMEONE ELSE WILL VOLUNTEER – IT’S YOU WE NEED.
